…Or, you know, don’t. 😆 “Sail” was the song in my head when I woke. I doubt there is any significance.

My steps crunch on the gravel of the trail. I step carefully. The trail is littered with fallen leaves, damp and slick from the rain that fell during the night. It is a peculiarly warm morning. There is a fog in the low places.

The trail quickly drops from the parking lot at the top of a small hill down to the meadow. It follows the river for a short distance, before wrapping around the meadow and marsh, and returning eventually to the parking lot at the trailhead. There’s not much to see in the foggy darkness. That’s okay. The purpose is in the walking.
A walk, an errand, some housekeeping laundry, change linens, vacuum), routine Saturday stuff today, at least, that’s my plan. The plan is not the experience. 😆
I walk along in the fog and darkness, headlamp on its dim setting. My stopping point this morning is the viewpoint looking out across the meadow and marsh. There’s some cover there if it starts raining. When I reach the viewpoint I discover someone has gotten there ahead of me. A family of racoons is playing and romping all around, over the benches, and even along the rail. They are fun to watch, but spot me and one by one, they drop over the edge down a (very short) distance into the grass, disappearing together into the darkness.
I sit awhile, mostly wondering whether I would see the moon this morning, if it weren’t a cloudy night? I could look it up on my device, obviously, but that isn’t the point. I’d rather wonder.
I breathe, exhale, and relax. I’ll begin again later, after the sun is up. That’s soon enough.
